Volunteer

Are you passionate about the arts and have a few spare hours a month? If so you could support your local theatre and join our amazing team. We have four roles across marketing, front of house and catering in which you could support the theatre. Here are just a few reasons that volunteering with us is so rewarding:

  • • a great opportunity to meet new people and become part of an extended community
  • • increases your employability by developing new skills and gaining experience
  • • enjoy access to tickets for selected performances as a thank you
  • • be amongst the first to find out what’s coming up at Darwen Library Theatre with regular updates

If you are interested in assisting the programming team read more about how to get involved here.

Front our House Volunteers

Our Front of House volunteers assist the Duty Manager in welcoming audiences, checking tickets, showing people around the building, selling merchandise and ice creams, handing out flyers and brochures, clearing and cleaning the auditorium at the end of a show and generally being on hand to deal with enquiries to ensure the smooth running of the performance.

Front of House Volunteers are a key point of contact for our customers when they attend the theatre and if, for any reason, we have to evacuate.  We are looking for people who are smiling and sociable who can remain calm if things get a little hectic.  Volunteers must have completed the required training before any activity can be undertaken and may be asked to regularly refresh training where required.

If you are 16 years of age or over, available for a couple of three to four hour daytime or evening shifts a month, are interested in the arts and want to support your local theatre then we would love to hear from you.  To express your interest in volunteering with us, please contact Christine Rowe, Assistant Manager at dlt@blackburn.gov.uk or phone 01254 222505

Cake Club

As part of the Cake Club, you will enjoy a natter; a good northern brew and sample an array of cake whilst filling envelopes with Darwen Library Theatre show print and accompanying letters. The cake club will take place once a month on average and usually on a Friday morning, but with flexibility for additional mailings as and when called upon.

If you are interested in joining, require further information or simply wish to supply a cake recipe challenge, please contact Rebecca Weaver, Programming and Marketing Manager at dlt@blackburn.gov.uk or phone 01254 706066

Darwen Library Theatre Ambassadors

As a Theatre Ambassador you will deliver Darwen Library Theatre show print sites in the region – submitting a simple monthly list/report of places distributed.  It’s a great way to get a few extra steps into your day and make conversation about something that interests you.  In addition, we ask that, if you have any social media accounts, you engage with posts from the theatre to endorse our work and help us spread the word about our events.

If you are interested in becoming a Theatre Ambassador or require further information please contact Rebecca Weaver, Programming and Marketing Manager at dlt@blackburn.gov.uk or phone 01254 706066

Bar Volunteers

Our Bar Volunteers assist the Duty Manager in welcoming audiences, serving drinks, taking interval orders, restocking the bar and clearing and cleaning the café/bar at the end of a shift.

We are looking for people who are smiling and sociable, confident in cash handling and who can remain calm when the bar gets busy.  Volunteers must have completed the required training before any activity can be undertaken and may be asked to regularly refresh training where required.

If you are 18 years of age or over, available for a couple of three to four hour afternoon or evening shifts a month, are interested in the arts and want to support your local theatre then we would love to hear from you.  To express your interest in volunteering with us, please contact Christine Rowe, Assistant Manager at dlt@blackburn.gov.uk or phone 01254 222505
